Have You Ever Wondered?

Have you ever wondered why we have Easter bunnies and eggs?  Easter was celebrated by ancient Saxons as a pagan festival for the return of spring where they commemorated the goddess of offspring Eastre.  When missionaries came they attempted to convert them to Christianity by combining this festival with the observance of the resurrection of Christ.  Eventually the name was changed from Eastre to Easter.

Prior to AD 325 it was celebrated on different days of the week but then Emperor Constantine issued the Easter Rule where is would be the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after Vernal Equinox or basically between March 22 and April 25th.

The Bunny was the earthly symbol of the goddess Eastre, so that is why we have the Easter Bunny.  The egg predates the Christian holiday. Eggs were the symbol of birth and they were exchanged and often wrapped in gold leaf, or if you were a peasant, colored by boiling them in leaves or petals of flowers – the Easter Egg!!

Congratulations Class of 2011!!!

Graduation, commencement, convocation, invocation – whatever you may call it, is an important time in the life of any student.  Whether it is graduation from kindergarten, middle school, high school or college it is the transition from one chapter into another.  This time is a joyous time and should be celebrated!!  We would like to congratulate all those graduates of the class of 2011 and wish you all great success in your future endeavors.

You have brains in your head
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You’re on your own
And you know what you know
You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.
Dr. Suess

A graduation ceremony is an event where the commencement speaker tells thousands of students dressed in identical caps and gowns that “individuality” is the key to success. Robert Orben.
